Scott Barnes Body Bling Original

In the summer, because we are baring the flesh for all to see, it is really important for me to have a body bronzer when I am too lazy to fake tan and as I love glitter, I love it to have a little glam to it to make my skin really glow. I know that being as I live in Cyprus where it is 1000c I should by rights get a natural tan but 1, I hate the heat. 2, I don’t want to subject my skin to the harmful and ageing rays of the sun so for me it’s better to fake it.

I’ve tried a few products such as St. Tropez and Fakebake and the Fakebake one was making my skin dry and scaly so I was on the lookout for a new one. I saw the Scott Barnes Body Bling Original on the Selfridges website and thought I would give it a whirl and since then I am on my second tube which I got from lookfantastic for €33.95 for 120ml.

This product is advertised as a tinted body moisturizer but as you are rubbing it into the skin it runs out of lubrication and so starts becoming patchy and if you have any dead skin (lovely, I know) this will start to roll up together and it’s not a pretty sight. Now I am the body exfoliating queen but for this to happen regarding the skin means, obviously, that the product is too ‘dry’ and needs a better or more emollient added to it. It also leaves the skin dry which is definitely not what I want so it is should never be advertised as a body moisturizer.

I am happy with the colour payoff and the scent which is like a floral perfume, but I wasn’t happy with the end result. I decided to mix some with an equal squirt of my Laura Mercier body cream, mixed it together in my hands and then applied it to my body and EUREKA! I found the solution and so now when I wear it mixed with this cream it goes on evenly and doesn’t dry out my skin.

Considering that it is such an expensive product I shouldn’t have to mix it with another moisturizer but I have yet to find a product that is as good as this so I guess I have to live with it. It does take a while to dry with or without applying it with a body moisturizer so make sure you use it way ahead of getting dressed. Once totally dried there is only a slight transference of the product onto clothes but I wouldn’t trust it with white clothing.

I have to say that if you decide to try the mixing method you must use it with a very creamy body moisturizer because I have tried it with other lotions which were very fluid and the results are patchy.

One complaint I do have is how the colour comes off on the outside of the tube over time which you can see below:

So would I buy it again?  Yes, and I have done, because there isn’t anything better that I have found.  Saying this below you will find my rating:
